About Freemasonry
Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and largest fraternity, dedicated to making good men better through moral instruction, personal growth, and service to others. Its traditions reach back hundreds of years, yet its principles remain timeless and relevant today.
Freemasonry brings together men of diverse backgrounds who share a commitment to integrity, responsibility, and community involvement. It teaches these values through symbolism, fellowship, and shared experience.

The Purpose of Freemasonry
The purpose of Freemasonry is to promote character, compassion, and service. Freemasons strive to improve themselves while contributing positively to their families, communities, and society as a whole.
Freemasonry encourages:
- Honesty and ethical conduct
- Respect for others
- Personal accountability
- Charity and service
Freemasonry and Faith
Freemasonry is not a religion, nor does it replace a man’s faith. Freemasons are encouraged to be faithful to their own religious beliefs. While Freemasonry requires a belief in a Supreme Being, it does not define or promote any particular faith.
Men of many religious traditions are welcomed and respected within the fraternity.

The Blue Lodge: Where All Freemasons Begin
Every Freemason begins his journey in a local Blue Lodge, also known as a Craft Lodge. This is the foundation of all Masonic membership.
The Blue Lodge confers three degrees:
- Entered Apprentice
- Fellowcraft
- Master Mason
These degrees teach moral lessons through symbols and traditions that emphasize personal responsibility, integrity, and service. A man must become a Master Mason before joining any additional Masonic bodies.
Beyond the Blue Lodge
After becoming a Master Mason, a man may choose to continue his Masonic journey through additional bodies, such as the York Rite. These organizations build upon the teachings of the Blue Lodge and provide further opportunities for education, fellowship, and service.
Participation beyond the Blue Lodge is optional and based on personal interest.
